Rene’ Meave
Songwriter-Singer-Storyteller

RENÉ MEAVE | Songwriter-Singer-StorytellerThe music of René Meave is a living bridge between the dust of the South Texas plains and the heart of the American Midwest. Born and raised in Weslaco, Texas, Meave first came to Michigan as a migrant farmworker—a journey that deeply shaped his worldview and instilled in him the gritty, soulful perspective of a true working-class storyteller.---The Los Bandits LegacyFor decades, René Meave and the late Guillermo "Memo" Martinez stood side-by-side as the co-founders and the front men of Los Bandits de Michigan—a name eventually shortened to simply Los Bandits by their devoted fans. Together, this legendary Michigan-based outfit pioneered a groundbreaking, cross-cultural blend of Tex-Mex, Americana, and roots rock.Formed in 1991, Los Bandits brought an electric, national-caliber energy to stages across the region, breaking down cultural barriers and leaving a deep impact that was later captured in the acclaimed documentary film, More Than a Tex-Mex Band. Following Memo's passing in 2020, that iconic chapter of the band came to a close, leaving a permanent mark on Midwestern roots music.---The Nashville Connection & The CraftWhile his roots are firmly planted in history, Meave has spent decades commanding respect on the national industry stage. An award-winning writer recognized by both the American Song Festival and the BMI Song Festival, he currently has songs signed with Sony ATV and Next Number One Publishing in Nashville.Meave's sharp ear for talent and deep industry connections also made him instrumental in the discovery of country star Frankie Ballard, helping him secure his breakout national Warner Bros. recording contract. That relationship blossomed into a high-profile creative collaboration, with René co-writing the track "Barefeet" alongside Ballard and Marc-Alan Barnette.---The Chili Peppers Songwriting ClubToday, René carries that same celebrated spirit, elite craftsmanship, and rich musical legacy forward into his solo work and his leadership of the Chili Peppers Songwriting Club. Alongside his longtime co-writer Clayton Sawyer, Meave co-founded the club to serve as a vital regional incubator for the craft. For over ten years, the club has run dedicated open mics in the Kalamazoo area with a strict focus on showcasing purely original music. The club's reputation for serious songwriting eventually caught the attention of Nashville powerhouse and hit-writer Marc-Alan Barnette (MAB), who began traveling to Michigan to conduct workshops for the group."There's a songwriting group called the Chili Pepper Songwriting Group, and we started going to their write nights. René Meave was a real mentor to us and really pushed us to write. We sort of found our voices and that was really where a lot of our growth started."
